How to Bless Your Home in 2022
May Christ Bless this House
Every year we are invited to bless our home on the Feast of the Epiphany and the New Year. This sacred tradition is still carried out throughout the world.
CHALKUse the chalk to write 20 + C + M + B + 22 above your front door. Gather your family together and ask for God’s blessing for all those who reside in and visit your home: May Christ bless our home and remain with us throughout the new year. Amen. The letters C, M, B are an abbreviation of the Latin words Christus Mansionem Benedicat, “May Christ bless the place.” The “+” signs represent the cross and the numbers 20, 22 are the year. With time the chalk will fade. As it does, we let the meaning of the symbols written sink into the depths of our hearts. Now, offer this prayer: Visit, O blessed Lord, this home with the gladness of your presence. Bless all who live or visit here with the gift of your love; and grant that we may manifest your love to each other and to all whose lives we touch. May we grow in grace and in the knowledge and love of You; guide, comfort, and strengthen us in peace, O Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen.
BOTTLE FOR HOLY WATERSprinkle or spray holy water around your front door as you pray for all those who enter your home be washed clean of anything unlike love and to be renewed and filled with God’s love and blessing. Continue sprinkling at the entrance to every room within your home and all four corners of each room-clearing your space and claiming your home for the Holy Spirit to be fully alive.
BLESSED SALTBlessed salt is used to clear the space from negativity and welcome love, peace, and renewal. Generously sprinkle the salt at each threshold and in every corner of your home. As you do this, continue to proclaim your home as a home for God, in the most Holy name of Jesus Christ and invite the Holy Spirit into your home to clear away anything unlike love.
REPEAT FOR YEARS TO COMEEach year, remember this invitation for the Holy Spirit to be present in your home and surround you with love, joy, peace, and protection.
We invite you to adopt this tradition as you bless your home for the 2022 year!
