DAY 23

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.Philippians 1:6

The difference between “self help” and Christianity is that in Christianity, God is the real source of our personal growth. What a relief! We don’t have to save ourselves or perfect ourselves, all we have to do is cooperate with God’s grace. He is the one who has given us the gift of faith, adopted us as His children, and will continue to guide us. We just need to say “yes” to everything He asks of us. Do you ever feel frustrated because of your repeated falls and sins? Where does that frustration come from? Does it come from our faith in God, or our secret desire to be like God, to “earn” our own salvation and perfection? Read the verse again, and allow your soul to be strengthened by the thought that God is in charge of your spiritual growth.

(Make the Sign of the Cross)

From the Universal Prayer

Lord, I believe in you: increase my faith.
I trust in you: strengthen my trust.
I love you: let me love you more and more.
I am sorry for my sins: deepen my sorrow.
I worship you as my first beginning,
I long for you as my last end,
I praise you as my constant helper,
and call on you as my loving protector.
Guide me by your wisdom,
correct me with your justice,
comfort me with your mercy,
protect me with your power.

Pope Clement XI
