Day Nine - 40 Day Prayer Pledge

Jesus said: “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, He bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in your, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:5-7
It is hard to tell where a vine stops and its branches start. That’s how closely linked Jesus wants to be with us, his followers if we will let him. How united am I to “the vine” of Jesus Christ, who pours the life of his grace into my soul? What helps me stay united to Jesus, and what tends to separate me from Him? Read the passage again, slowly, maybe out loud; remember, these are the words of our Savior, God Himself; repeat the phrase that resonates most with you, and let it nourish your soul.

A Prayer to Never be Separated from Jesus
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
By the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit
Your death brought life to the world.
By your holy body and blood
Free me from all my sins and from every evil.
Keep me faithful to your teaching,
and never let me be parted from you.
