A Palm Sunday Tradition

A Palm Sunday Tradition

Palm Sunday Claim your home as a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit!

Tradition: Using the Palm Branches to Bless our Home

My Grandfather would dip the palm branch into holy water and go around our house blessing every room.

TIP:  Bless your home this Palm Sunday as we prepare to be EASTER PEOPLE of Hope

HOW to BLESS YOUR HOME:

  1. AT THE FRONT DOOR: Anoint your front door with a blessing and a sprinkle of holy water—you can also add a cross over the top of your door.  Prayer: Lord, please shower all who enter into our home with Your love and all you leave will “go out in joy and be led forth in peace.” (Isaiah 55:12)
  2. AT WINDOW AND DOOR: Bless all the doors and windows with the holy water and pray for protection. Prayer: Archangel Michael protect our home, surround it with your wings of protection, thank you Lord, for surrounding our home with Your angels. “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways”. (Psalm 91:11) You can add a statue of our Blessed Mother in the Kitchen to fill the space with love.
  3. THE KITCHEN: Walk through your kitchen and shared spaces sprinkling holy water as you claim all the spaces for the Holy Spirit. Prayer: Come Holy Spirit Come, fill the hearts of thy faithful, enkindle us with the fire of your love, set forth your Spirit and we shall be created and You shall renew the face of the Earth.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraphs 2670-2672)
  4. THE DINING ROOM: Bless your dining room and living room with the holy water and pray for the conversations to be fortified by God’s love. Prayer: “Lord, may our conversations be always full of grace seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (Colossians 4:6)
  5. CONTINUE THROUGH YOUR HOME: Continue to walk through your home and blessing with holy water as you pray that your home be a place where the name of Jesus is honored.  Prayer:  Lord help us to always honor Your name, allow our home to be under Your protection and dear to Your heart. “ I have heard the prayer of petition which you offered in my presence. I have consecrated this house which you have built and I set my name there forever: my eyes and my heart shall be there always.” (1 King 9:3)
  6. IN EACH BEDROOM: Walk through each bedroom and bless with holy water, place a door blessing on the knob of the bedroom door, praying that as we dream, the Lord may offer us peace and restore us with his love. “For He gives sleep to His beloved" (Psalm 127:2)
  7. WITH YOUR FAMILY: Together with your family dedicate your home to the Lord. Prayer:  “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
