Celebrating Mothers – Jessica

In honor of Mother’s Day, we asked some of our favorite bloggers and influencers from the My Saint My Hero community to share their thoughts on faith, motherhood, and the feminine genius.

My vocation has changed so much. I was delivering babies and now I’m a full-time mom, a full-time wife, and raising my own little church. That has become my “yes” and while some people ask, “Do you miss work or the adult interaction,” and I do, but raising good catholic men and women with a foundation of faith that I know to be true is so much bigger than me.

I feel like being a mom and a wife has totally groomed my femininity. In Pope Saint John Paul II’s, “Letter to Women,” he says that we find true fulfillment in this complete gift of self and I’ve found that when you marry someone you get a glimpse of that. You completely give yourself to someone else and through that communion, you bear this fruit of life.

To me feminism is a little bit more than standing up and speaking out for what we want. It’s living it, it’s being an example and if I can be that example to my daughter Luna and the people who follow me, then that’s how I can reach out and change the world in my little way. I can’t really leave my kids to go to the march or go speak in front of people right now but if I can inspire women through my posts and the little messages that come to my heart through prayer, during the rosary, or in meditation then I feel like that’s what I’m called to do

There are times when I’m at the depths of despair and my kids have run me ragged and I have to stop and look at my statue of Mary and be like, “Mary I’m sure Jesus was a handful at one point, help me through this.” As a mom and as a woman, when you feel like you’re failing it’s emotional and physical and everything on top of you and sometimes all you can do is cry and pray to gather yourself back up and keep going. In any situation, whether you’re a mother or a student or a full-time worker in any situation it’s good to be able to fall back on Him and I think that’s my strength, honestly, He’s my strength. – Jessica
