A reflection on how God speaks through the vocation of motherhood

The Way God Speaks to Me Through Motherhood

Motherhood is our superpower, and when we allow it … it will be the very thing that draws us closer to Jesus.

God speaks to us through the vocation of motherhood.

It is our vocation; it is where we can be transformed to grow closer to God.

Follow Him because in the end...His way is better.

God speaks to me in motherhood through the way of Jesus through Mary…  I resonate with the image of Our Lady of Grace, focusing on that one barefoot image of Mary standing on the serpent. An image that no woman can deny is one of strength.

In my 26 years of motherhood, I have seen how Jesus brings me closer through the joys of motherhood, the acceptance and hard truths of motherhood, the suffering of motherhood, and my favorite... the invitation of motherhood.

The Joys of Motherhood are those moments we have when we feel the delight of His love through our child.

The moment we first heard we were going to be a mama.

The moment we held our baby for the first time.

The moment their eyes sparkled when we laughed at a shared joke.

The moment we receive a phone call from our child wanting to share their day.

The moment we receive an unexpected hug or snuggle.

Those moments of motherhood transform us to LOVE God more deeply.

The Acceptance, or what I like to call, The Hard Truths of Motherhood

The moment we have to accept their journey is not ours.

The moment we have to have that hard conversation, we have to completely trust our relationship.

The moment we become mama bear and stand firm in protecting our child.

The moment we guide our children, not push them.

Those moments of motherhood transform us to TRUST God more deeply.

The Suffering of Motherhood

The moment we hear a hard illness or diagnosis for our child.

The moment we know our child struggles with a disability.

The moment we help navigate our child’s hurtful friendship issues.

The moment we listen to our child as they suffer from a broken heart.

Those moments transform us to UNDERSTANDING God more deeply with humility and empathy.

The Invitation of Motherhood—The Church is the Greatest Tool in the Invitation

The moment that the scripture verse you have read 100 times suddenly is way more impactful than ever.

The moment you pray a decade of the rosary, it heals your heart.

The moment you receive the Eucharist at Mass, you leave all your worries at the altar.

The moment you are invited to a retreat, a moms group, a rosary group, or a special talk, and you feel seen.

The moment you receive the reconciliation of confession, and you know you are forgiven.

The moment you learn about a saint and relate to him or her more deeply.

Those moments of motherhood transform us to RELY on God with purpose and confidence.

May this Mother’s Day, you see God in all the little refine-and-redefine moments.

May you love, trust, understand, and rely on your God-given gift of vocation to better allow God to transform you through it all!

What a gift to be called a mother.
