The Promise of Motherhood

Motherhood is such a gift. It's a God-given gift that comes with a huge promise. It’s a promise from God that in motherhood, you will receive the the ability to LOVE beyond your wildest dreams, to FORGIVE with freeing tenderness, to experience JOY with immense happiness, and to SEE God's presence in the eyes of your child.
As a mother of three, I can reflect deeply on all the emotions I have felt in mothering them all. However, on this Mother's Day, realizing my ability to love and be a witness to that love, truly comes from my own mother.
Perhaps, it's because my firstborn is getting married in a few weeks. All my emotions are bubbling up.
A letting go that's stated in the Bible, "a man shall leave his father and mother…" (Ephesians 5:31).
Yet, I know what I am feeling right now in all the emotions of motherhood…my own mama experienced. This wisdom becomes inner strength for me.
My mother has always been steady. Even at 53 years old, I still want to call her about things. Sometimes for advice, sometimes for a shared laugh, and sometimes for just shelter from the world.
I realize Mother's Day can drum up such mixed feelings for others. The loss of a mother changes this day. A strained relationship with a mother changes this day.
However, wherever you are at with Mother's Day, realize that it's a day to celebrate God's ability to share a promise—a life-giving promise and reminder that you are here only because of your mother.
Wishing you all a beautiful Mother's Day! To my own mama, thank you, I love you, and a huge blessing to you on this Mother's Day.
