They fell in love with this statue representing Mary in all its simplicity, the delicacy of the features of her face is revealed by the color, thus offering a comforting presence of peace and love in homes. In the past in France, every room in the house had a crucifix, a sign of spirituality, and the importance of surrendering to God.
In 1858, the virgin appeared in Lourdes, to Bernadette Soubirous, a young girl of modest origin. She says she attended eighteen apparitions of a person posing as "the Immaculate Conception". It is this representation drawn by a nun in the 1950s that gave birth to their model.
